Take the blinders off & look around!! Life's offering you joy at every turn. Are you able to SEE it?!

Sometimes I get notes from penny finders that absolutely make my day.  Pictures of finds, words of encouragement about my penny-finding obsession, or stories of my freinds’ own penny obsessed lives!   But sometimes the notes are way more than just a story.  Sometimes they get right to the HEART of what this project is all about.  And those notes…they make my week!

This one was one such note.  A penny finding friend of a friend whom I’ve never even met in person but who clearly gets why it’s important to pay attention to the little joys life brings us!

A big thanks to you, Sebouh for seeing the magic a penny can bring.  You didn’t just make my week…you made my month!  😉

Leslie,

I spoke to Nicole earlier this evening about the power of the penny and what it has meant to me in the past few weeks.  I explained to her that to me, the symbolism and act of manifesting the pennies or change, is the process that has been so impactful to me thus far.

It comes at a time where there is a fair amount of change going on in my life.  I am so excited about all of the change that I don’t know what to do.  Sometimes, I don’t know who to share the change with.  Just today, on my way to my sister’s house I was able to spot change while I was driving!  I pulled over, made sure I wasn’t about to get hit by oncoming traffic and honed in on the quarter that I spotted from my driver seat.  Then I continued to peruse the street and found another quarter and 3 more dimes.  It was quite astonishing and as I explained to Nicole earlier tonight, the grin on my face could have lit up a small village.

In short, (and I really mean in short) I wanted to share with you how much it has meant for me to be a part of this program.

Listen to how I worded it, program.

It’s not a program.

You don’t have to sign-up.

There is no fee required.

It empowers you to open your eyes – WIDER

And soak in more than you have previously.

It’s a wonderful thing and so I thank you.

Cheers!

It's not everyone who's friends are willing to brave public restrooms in the name of coin finding. But my friends are high quality...and they frequently have to pee! 🙂

I really think I might be the luckiest person alive.  Not only do I have friends finding pennies and thinking about me when they do…but they often share their adventures with me via text, voicemail, or by actually delivering their found coins to me.

But my friend Rick took it to a whole new level.  Sure, some might consider it a LOWER level…but I consider this friendship in the truest sense!!  Just check out the e-mail I got with the attached photo.  If you were fuzzy on the location of the dime…the e-mail says it all!

Going the extra mile….Yes that is a toilet bowl.

I haven't actually SEEN Ellie's infamous green penny yet but had to see if I could find a green penny on google. Sure enough...here was a good one. Although I get the feeling it's not nearly as good as Ellie's!

Nothing makes me happier than logging into my facebook page and seeing comments about finds from my friends.  ESPECIALLY when they post gems like this:

Ellie’s Notes from the field (April 28, 2010)

Here’s my latest penny story:

I walk to work the same way everyday, I’m definitely a creature of habit. This makes looking for pennies interesting, because when I find one I wonder how many days I’ve walked by it before I could see it. Yesterday, I was at the corner of 14th and P Street waiting to cross, I look down and see this green circle. I hesitate and then decide it’s gum not a penny. I cross the street and continue my journey to Starbucks.

This morning, I’m walking as I always do and I find a nice shiny penny at 14th and Rhode Island. This reminds me of the gum from yesterday, I just can’t seem to let it go. I walk to 14th and P look down, still there. Still looks like gum, but I say to hell with it, and pick it up. IT WAS A PENNY! The most oxidized, old, dirty penny, but a penny nonetheless. Just goes to show you can never be sure and it doesn’t hurt to get a little dirty.

Best. Penny. Ever.

Yeah, it’s official.  I have the greatest friends on the planet!  Or should I say…

Best. Friends. EVER!

Ah…more fun pics & notes from my friends!

Just because it's raining doesn't mean there's not joy to be had. Look! A penny!!

It was a soggy DC day on Monday but April didn’t let that stop her from finding a bit of joy in the form of a penny.  What’s more…she SPREAD that joy by texting me a picture of said soggy penny!

Neither rain, nor sleet nor dark of night (it works for the postal carriers!) will keep a good penny finder from enjoying the moment of happiness that comes with finding a penny!

Four little words. Let them serve as a reminder when YOU find a penny that there is abundance in the world & whichever God you believe in is looking out for you!

I absolutely LOVE when people send me penny stories! It happened again today when Joy, a friend from high school (whom facebook has been kind enough to reconnect me with!), sent me the following story.

Her note said:

“I don’t know if you are religious or not… but I know how much you love collecting pennies and I thought of you when I read this.”

The funny thing is that I’ve been saying for the past few years how I really feel pennies are The Universe (& God) telling me I’m on the right path.

When I go tot he gym and find a penny…God is telling me he’s proud of me for swimming a few laps. When I walk to Target to return a shirt and find a penny…I believe it’s The Universe telling me I really didn’t need it anyway!

Today I went to the bank to close an account (in an effort to go from three banks to two & simplify my life). Outside the bank I found FIVE pennies. Certainly God was telling me simplifying my life was good thing!

So this story is right in line with my penny beliefs. Whatever your beliefs are, I hope it makes you smile and remember that when you find a penny somewhere…it might be more than just a cent. It might be a message from God!

Cheers!

Lucky Pennies
You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I’ve ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.

Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband’s employer’s home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house.

The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live… The husband’s employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.

As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.

Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value.

A smile crept across the man’s face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?

“Look at it,” he said. “Read what it says.”

She read the words, “United States of America.”

“No, not that. Read further.”

“One cent?” she tried again.

“Nope, keep reading.”

“In God we Trust?”

“Yes!” he shouted with delight.

She still wasn’t sure where this was going, “And?” she continued.

“And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by?”

“When I see a coin, I pray. I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God’s way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!”

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, “In God We Trust,” and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient.

It’s true that we should pay more attention to the small things in life (and the big ones if you’re my paper-money finding friends!).

Hope you enjoy this next batch of found money updates as much as I did!
